Making Art History in New Jersey

"New Jersey as Non-Site" is an exhibition at the Princeton University Art Museum (10/5/13 -- 1/5/14) exploring how the state became a hot bed of experimental art in the 1950s, '60s, and '70s. The exhibition is curated by Kelly Baum, who had rare access to the letters and other documents of George Segal, which were left to the university. Included in "New Jersey as Non-Site" are little-known photographs by Segal, New Jersey-based works by Earthworks artist Robert Smithson, and more. "State of the Arts" is there as Fluxus artist and longtime Rutgers University professor Geoffrey Hendricks presides over a special recreation of his 1969 happening "The Sky is the Limit." Produced by Susan Wallner.
